Marketing online and making sure your site is user friendly

March 1, 2008 09:03 by Maya Dvash

Marketing online and making sure your site is user friendly are the keys to generating business for your online boutique. We’ve picked the brain of our internet marketing experts and are ready to share some of their oh-so-helpful knowledge with you. So get ready, hold on, and take notes!

Here are some tips in improving your online presence:

  1. Be Smart About the Keywords You Bid On
    • Instead of bidding on basic keywords that are usually more expensive to purchase, try bidding on more specific keywords, which are less expensive. For example, instead of bidding on "leather handbags," you may bid on "brown leather satchel," "suede hobo bags," and "large leather wallet."
    • The outcome of this is that you’ll have better sales conversions with these new keywords because they attract more qualified buyers. And, purchasing these keywords will be less expensive because no one else is bidding on them.
    • The next step is to direct the visitors from these campaigns to specific pages on your website relevant to what they are searching for. In the above example, your listing for “brown leather satchel” could link directly to your page of satchel handbags rather than your site’s homepage.

  2. Be Specific About Your Ad Copy
    • After you’ve created and bid on your highly targeted phrase, write an ad specific to the keyword. These customized ads will grab the attention and visits from qualified buyers.
    • Once you combine this tactic with the one mentioned above of linking visitors directly to specific pages on your site, the visitor will be ready to become a buyer.

  3. Create Emotion and Enthusiasm
    • Make sure the wording you use is wording that provokes emotion, enthusiasm and a response.
    • Some examples of power words:  special offer, tips, discover, free shipping, and limited time offer.
    • Some examples of call-to-action phrases:   “Sale Ends Tomorrow”, “Buy Today- Save 40%”, “Buy 1 get 1 Free”

  4. Add Variety to your Assortment

We hope that you’ve found these tips useful and look forward to helping you improve your online sales!
